On Wednesday, July 10, the Senate suspended all legislative activities in a gesture of respect following the death of Hon. Olaide Adewale Akinremi. Akinremi represented the Ibadan North Federal Constituency in Oyo State.
The announcement of Akinremi’s passing was made by Hon. Akin Rotimi, the spokesman for the House of Representatives. According to Rotimi, Akinremi passed away in the early hours of Wednesday after a brief illness.
Upon resuming their session, the Senate formally acknowledged Akinremi’s death. In accordance with their standing orders, the senators observed a minute of silence to honor the deceased member. Subsequently, they decided to suspend all plenary sessions and legislative activities for the rest of the day to mourn Akinremi’s death.
