Abuja Court Rules Anyanwu’s Case Academic as Tenure Expires
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed a suit filed by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, seeking to be recognised as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The suit, reportedly backed by allies of Nyesom Wike, was struck out after the court ruled that the matter had become academic.
Presided over by Justice Mohammed Umar, the court dismissed the case following an application by Anyanwu’s legal team, which argued that his tenure as PDP National Secretary expired in December 2025, making the reliefs sought irrelevant.
The court dismissed the matter without awarding costs to any of the parties.
The legal battle is part of a lingering leadership crisis within the PDP, with different factions claiming key national offices. Anyanwu’s claim was linked to a faction loyal to Wike, while other factions opposed his continued stay in office based on party rules.
The dismissal effectively ends Anyanwu’s legal push to secure court recognition, highlighting the judiciary’s stance on intervening in party matters that have become obsolete.
