Health authorities intensify surveillance and containment measures as fresh COVID-19 case emerges in Akamkpa LGA

Health authorities in Cross River State have traced and isolated 10 individuals who came into contact with a confirmed COVID-19 patient, in a swift move to prevent further spread of the virus.

The case involves a Chinese national working in Akamkpa Local Government Area, whose infection was recently confirmed by health officials. Following the development, a rapid response team was deployed to identify and monitor persons who may have been exposed.

According to the State Epidemiologist, the identified contacts have been placed under isolation and are being closely observed within the incubation period of the virus. Their movements have also been restricted as part of precautionary measures to contain any possible transmission.

The Cross River State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with national health authorities, has activated emergency response protocols, including intensified contact tracing, surveillance, and infection prevention strategies in the affected area.

Officials confirmed that the infected patient is currently receiving treatment at a designated health facility and is responding positively. Residents have been reassured that the situation is under control, with no immediate cause for panic.

The state government, however, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue observing basic health guidelines such as regular handwashing, maintaining hygiene, and seeking medical attention if symptoms arise.

Authorities also emphasized that while COVID-19 cases have significantly declined, occasional infections linked to international travel remain possible, making early detection and prompt response critical to public health safety.
