A faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led by Acting National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed has inaugurated a new Board of Trustees (BoT), deepening the ongoing leadership crisis within the opposition party.
The inauguration ceremony took place in Abuja on Friday, where former Senator Mao Ohuabunwa was announced as the new BoT Chairman, while Isah Dansidi was named Secretary.
Speaking at the event, Abdulrahman Mohammed said the new board was constituted to “restore the true values” of the PDP, including justice, fairness, inclusivity, and respect for internal democracy.

He accused the former BoT, led by Adolphus Wabara, of “losing moral balance” and taking partisan positions in the internal disputes that have divided the party in recent months.
“The PDP must return to its founding ideals. We are determined to bring back credibility and discipline to our great party,” Mohammed stated.
The newly inaugurated BoT pledged to work with all genuine stakeholders to reposition the PDP ahead of future elections.
Meanwhile, loyalists of the main PDP leadership have dismissed the inauguration as “illegal” and a further attempt to divide the party.
Political observers say the development could heighten tensions within the PDP as rival factions continue to claim legitimacy over the party’s leadership structure.
