Minister Nyesom Wike of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has announced that starting January 2025, all commercial vehicles operating in Abuja must be security-profiled by the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS).
This move, unveiled during the FCT Renewed Hope Youth Empowerment Programme in Garki, aims to curb issues like kidnapping and “one-chance” robberies in the area.
Additionally, the initiative seeks to enhance public safety by requiring commercial drivers to have their information, vehicle details, and official Abuja markings verified and approved by security agencies.
In support of transportation reform and employment, the FCT government distributed 80 new vehicles for use as taxis, provided free of charge to beneficiaries.
Wike emphasized the importance of securing jobs locally, encouraging Nigerians to take pride in taxi driving, a profession widely embraced by Nigerians living abroad.
