Assistant Commissioner of Police Dies After Collapsing During Official Meeting in Ebonyi
An Assistant Commissioner of Police serving in Ebonyi State, Ogbon-Inu Taiwo Popoola, has died after collapsing during an official management meeting in Abakaliki, the state capital.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday at the office of the Commissioner of Police, where Popoola reportedly developed sudden breathing complications in the middle of a meeting.
Rushed to Police Medical Centre
According to reports, officers at the meeting immediately moved him to the Police Medical Centre within the State Police Headquarters for urgent treatment. However, medical personnel later confirmed him dead despite attempts to resuscitate him.
Possible Cause Linked to Cardiac Arrest
Preliminary medical findings suggest the senior police officer may have died from cardiac arrest associated with hypertensive heart disease. Officers within the command described the incident as sudden and shocking, noting that he did not display signs of illness before the collapse.
Officer in Charge of State Intelligence Department
Before his death, ACP Popoola served as the Officer in Charge of the State Intelligence Department (SID) in the Ebonyi State Police Command. His death has thrown the leadership of the command into mourning, especially as he was said to be active and fully engaged in his role before the incident.
Body Deposited at Teaching Hospital Mortuary
His remains have been deposited at the mortuary of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, pending further procedures.
