Group led by Nafiu Gombe of ADC accuses David Mark faction of hijacking party structure as leadership tussle intensifies ahead of 2027 elections
A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Nafiu Bala Gombe, on Thursday staged a protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, demanding official recognition as the legitimate leadership of the party.
The protesters accused a rival faction led by former Senate President, David Mark, of hijacking the party’s structure and undermining internal democracy. Carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, the group called on INEC to intervene and uphold due process within the party.
The demonstration highlights the deepening leadership crisis within the ADC, with multiple factions laying claim to control of the party. The situation has raised concerns about the party’s stability as political activities gradually build toward the 2027 general elections.
Officials of INEC received the protesters and assured them that their grievances would be reviewed in line with constitutional provisions and electoral guidelines.
The protest comes shortly after a similar demonstration by the David Mark-led faction, underscoring the growing tension and internal divisions within the party. Political observers warn that if unresolved, the crisis could weaken the ADC’s role as a viable platform for opposition coalitions in Nigeria.
