Nigeria to battle Egypt for bronze after penalty shootout defeat to host nation Morocco in 2025 AFCON
Nigeria will battle Egypt in the AFCON 2025 third-place match scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2026, following the Super Eagles’ painful semi-final exit against host nation Morocco.
The highly contested semi-final ended in a draw after regulation time, but Nigeria were defeated via penalty shootout, allowing Morocco to advance to the final while pushing the Super Eagles into the third-place playoff.
Egypt also failed to secure a place in the final after losing their semi-final encounter, setting up a classic African football rivalry in the playoff match.
The clash between Egypt and Nigeria is expected to be fiercely competitive, with both sides aiming to finish the tournament on a high note and claim the bronze medal. Nigeria will be looking to bounce back strongly after the disappointment against Morocco, while Egypt will seek redemption after missing out on a final berth.
The third-place match remains an opportunity for both teams to showcase their quality and end the tournament with pride.
