The Executive Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zaka Maikalangu, has called for urgent intervention from FCT Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike following the recent demolition of homes in Kuchibedna community, Kafe District.
Chairman Maikalangu expressed deep concern over the humanitarian impact, noting that numerous families, including indigenous Gbagyi residents, have been left homeless.
He stressed that enforcement of land laws must respect human dignity, due process, and ensure proper resettlement and compensation for affected communities.
In a strong statement, he said:
“Regardless of any legal claims by developers, citizens cannot be left on the streets without shelter, compensation, or dignity. The human cost of these demolitions is too high and requires immediate action.”
The AMAC Chairman issued the following urgent appeals:
Immediate personal intervention by FCT Minister Wike to halt the humanitarian crisis.
Relief and temporary shelters dispatched by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.
Full compensation and resettlement of displaced families before any further development.
Freeze on construction or development on the disputed land until proper resettlement is achieved.
Chairman Maikalangu also urged a holistic review of land allocations in indigenous communities to prevent future conflicts. He vowed to pursue all legal and administrative channels to protect the rights of Kuchibedna residents.
