Party sets dates for ward, local government, state and zonal congresses, with national convention slated for March 25–28, 2026
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has released its official timetable for nationwide congresses and the party’s National Convention, setting the stage for a comprehensive leadership renewal process across all levels ahead of future electoral activities.
According to the schedule, the process begins with a nationwide e-membership registration exercise slated to run from December 1, 2025 to January 30, 2026, aimed at updating the party’s membership database and strengthening grassroots participation. Notices for the congresses were issued on February 2, 2026, formally activating the congress timetable.
The party will conduct its ward congresses on February 18, 2026, followed by local government congresses on February 20, 2026. These grassroots-level elections are expected to produce executives who will drive party activities at the community and council levels nationwide.
Subsequently, state congresses are scheduled for March 7, 2026, where party officials will be elected to coordinate APC affairs at the state level. This will be followed by zonal congresses on March 21, 2026, bringing together representatives from states within each geopolitical zone to elect zonal officers and delegates.
The process will culminate in the APC National Convention holding from March 25 to March 28, 2026, during which national officers of the ruling party will be elected and key policy and organizational decisions taken.
The release of the timetable underscores the APC leadership’s intention to deepen internal democracy, strengthen party structures, and ensure readiness ahead of future political contests. Political observers expect the congresses to attract keen competition as aspirants position themselves for leadership roles within the party.
