Abuja – Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested suspected bandits during a security operation in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, recovering AK-47 rifles and a patrol vehicle.
According to a report by SaharaReporters, the suspects were apprehended while moving within the area under circumstances that raised security concerns. Military sources disclosed that dangerous weapons, including AK-47 assault rifles, were recovered from the suspects at the point of arrest.
During preliminary interrogation, one of the arrested individuals reportedly claimed that the firearms and the patrol vehicle in their possession were supplied by officials of the Kwara State government. However, this allegation has not been independently verified.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Nigerian Army nor the Kwara State Government has issued an official statement confirming or denying the claims made by the suspects.
The arrest comes amid growing security challenges in parts of Kwara State, where residents have raised concerns over kidnapping, banditry and armed attacks. In a related development, a family was reportedly kidnapped in the same region, with abductors demanding ransom for their release.
