Fresh insecurity in Kogi as gunmen abduct multiple residents in Mopa-Muro LGA, raising fresh concerns over safety in North-Central Nigeria

Suspected bandits in Kogi state have reportedly carried out a mass abduction of residents near the Government Technical College in Mopa-Muro Local Government Area of of the state further heightening fears over the worsening security situation in the North-Central region.

According to local sources, the armed attackers stormed the community around the school premises, firing sporadically to scare residents before abducting an unspecified number of people. The incident reportedly occurred at night, throwing the area into confusion as families scrambled for safety.

Residents said the attack has left many households in distress, with relatives of the abducted victims calling on security agencies for urgent intervention. Community members described the incident as part of a growing pattern of kidnappings and banditry affecting rural communities across Kogi State.

The latest Kogi kidnapping incident adds to mounting concerns about insecurity in North-Central Nigeria, where criminal gangs have continued to target communities, highways, and educational institutions for ransom operations.

As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to release an official statement confirming the number of victims or detailing rescue efforts. However, locals are urging both state and federal authorities to intensify security patrols and deploy additional personnel to vulnerable areas to prevent further attacks.

The development underscores the urgent need for strengthened intelligence gathering and coordinated security operations to restore confidence among residents in Kogi State and neighboring communities.
