Residents Flee As Gunmen led by Bello Launch Fresh Night Attack In Sabon Birni LGA

Suspected terrorists loyal to notorious bandit leader Bello Turji have launched a fresh attack on a community in Sokoto State, abducting over 20 residents and injuring others.

According to reports, the armed men stormed Gajit community in Lajinge District, Sabon Birni Local Government Area, late Tuesday night, operating freely for several hours.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived in large numbers, shooting sporadically to scare residents before forcefully taking away men, women, and youths. At least two people sustained gunshot injuries during the raid.

A local source disclosed that the assault has triggered mass displacement, with many families fleeing the community to neighbouring villages for safety.

“They came in the night, heavily armed. People ran into the bushes while they abducted many residents,” the source said.

Growing Insecurity In Eastern Sokoto

The latest abduction adds to the growing insecurity in Sabon Birni and Isa axis of Sokoto State, where Bello Turji and his loyalists have continued to operate despite repeated military operations in the region.

Residents say attacks have become more frequent, with communities living in fear of kidnappings, killings, and extortion, while calls for stronger security presence remain unanswered.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies are yet to issue an official statement, and the whereabouts of the abducted victims remain unknown.
