Federal High Court Adjourns El-Rufai Case To April 23 After Refusing To Hear Former Governor’s Bail Application
The sitting in Abuja has declined to hear the bail application filed by former Kaduna State Governor, , adjourning the matter to April 23, 2026.
The trial judge ruled that the bail application was premature, emphasizing that the defendant must first be formally arraigned before the court can consider any request for bail.
El-Rufai is facing a three-count charge reportedly instituted by the (DSS), relating to allegations of unlawful interception of communication and offences under Nigeria’s cybercrime laws.
During the proceedings, defence counsel urged the court to grant bail, arguing that the application was properly before it. However, the prosecution opposed the request, insisting that bail applications are only ripe for consideration after arraignment.
Following arguments from both sides, the court adjourned the case to April 23, 2026, for formal arraignment, setting the stage for the next phase of the legal proceedings.
