The Kuje Magistrate Court in Abuja has granted bail to activist Omoyele Sowore, Aloy Ejimakor (lawyer to IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu), and Prince Emmanuel Kanu, alongside 11 other protesters arrested during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow demonstration in the Federal Capital Territory.
The protest, held earlier this week, called for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in prolonged detention. Police authorities had charged the protesters with unlawful assembly and disturbance of public peace following their arrest.
Bail Conditions
Each defendant was granted bail in the sum of ₦500,000, with two sureties in like sum.
Additional bail conditions include:
Submission of National Identification Number (NIN),
Provision of a three-year tax clearance certificate, and
Deposit of their international passports with the court.
The ruling comes days after the defendants were remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre, sparking nationwide reactions and renewed debates on citizens’ rights to peaceful protest.
