Bwari Barber Calls for Justice After Alleged Police Teargas Shooting Leaves Him Blind in One Eye
A 26-year-old barber who reside in Sabon Gari community in Bwari has lost one of his eyes and suffered severe facial disfigurement after being allegedly shot in the face with a teargas bullet on New Year’s night.
In a viral interview with Ukeme TV, the young man recounted the horrifying incident. He insisted that the shot came directly from the current Bwari Divisional Police Officer (DPO), though some reports suggest it may have come from the DPO’s men.
According to the victim, he had been using insecticide in his room to kill mosquitoes before stepping outside to let the fumes dissipate. While standing outside and using his phone, he was reportedly hit directly in the face by the teargas projectile.
Thankfully, a friend and a nearby vigilante rushed him to a clinic for immediate first aid and stitches at Gabic Clinic. He later received further treatment at Bwari General Hospital, and was referred and operated on at National Hospital, Abuja. Despite these medical interventions, he has permanently lost one eye.
The barber is now calling on the relevant authorities to investigate the incident and deliver justice, expressing shock and disbelief at what happened to him.
This tragic case highlights growing concerns about police conduct and the safety of civilians during security operations in Bwari.
