Peaceful protest in FCT community draws police response as Kubwa Area Commander assures youths of action within two weeks
Bwari youths on Monday the 26th of January 2026 staged a peaceful protest against alleged police oppression, brutality and harassment in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Abuja Affairs blog reports.
The protesters, mostly young residents of the community, gathered with banners and placards bearing inscriptions such as “Say No to Police Oppression/Brutality in Bwari” and “Police Are Our Friends, We Should Not Be Scared of Them.” The protest was organised to draw attention to concerns over alleged police misconduct in the area and to demand justice and accountability.
According to the protesters, their demands include justice for victims of alleged police brutality, an end to police harassment in Bwari, the immediate halt of illegal night arrests, and appropriate action by police authorities to address the situation.
Abuja Affairs Blog gathered that the protest was professionally managed by the Area Commander of Kubwa, who addressed the youths on behalf of the Police Headquarters. She stated that she was deployed from the headquarters and noted that the police authorities are already aware of the situation in Bwari.
The Area Commander assured the protesters that police management is handling the matter and promised that feedback would be provided within two weeks. She appealed to the youths to suspend further protests, warning that continued demonstrations could be hijacked by miscreants and lead to security challenges in the area.
She further pledged to do everything possible to ensure that the grievances raised by the youths are addressed, urging them to remain calm and law-abiding.

Abuja Affairs Blog observed that the protest remained peaceful, with no reported incidents, as security operatives maintained order and monitored the situation throughout the exercise.
