Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has announced a major expansion of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, increasing its capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day.

Speaking at a World Press Conference in Lagos, Dangote revealed that the refinery’s new scale makes it the largest single-train refinery ever built in the world — a landmark achievement for Nigeria and the continent at large.

The expansion plan also includes boosting polypropylene production from 900,000 to 2.4 million metric tonnes annually, alongside new investments in linear alkylbenzene and base oil production.

Dangote emphasized that these are legacy investments designed to transform Nigeria’s industrial landscape and secure long-term prosperity for Africa.

“This vision is not just for Dangote, but for all Nigerians and Africans,” he noted, adding that Nigerians will soon be able to own part of the refinery, underscoring the inclusive spirit behind the project.

The Dangote Refinery continues to stand as a symbol of African resilience, innovation, and ambition, reshaping global perceptions of what is possible on the continent.
