Attack claims ruler’s wives, children, religious leaders as residents flee fresh wave of violence in North-Central Nigeria
Dozens of residents were killed on Tuesday night after terrorists launched a coordinated attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, leaving the Emir of Woro, Alhaji Saliu Bio Umar, missing.
Local sources said the attackers stormed the town, shooting indiscriminately and burning homes, including the palace of the traditional ruler. Among those reportedly killed were two wives of the Emir, several of his children, women, children, and travellers, as well as religious and community figures. Survivors disclosed that the assailants returned the following morning, killing residents who attempted to return to the community.
Many villagers have since fled to neighbouring areas for safety, while the Emir’s whereabouts remain unknown amid fears of abduction or death.
The attack has intensified concerns over the deteriorating security situation in North-Central Nigeria, with calls growing for urgent government intervention and increased security presence in vulnerable rural communities.
