Former House of Representatives member reportedly detained over claims of misleading foreign missions with security information
Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested former lawmaker Aliyu Ibrahim Gebi over allegations that he supplied false intelligence to foreign embassies.
Gebi, who represented a constituency in Bauchi State during the 7th National Assembly, was reportedly detained following claims that he provided misleading security-related information to diplomatic missions operating in Nigeria.
Sources familiar with the development disclosed that the arrest took place on April 3, 2026, although details surrounding the operation and his current status remain limited.
The former lawmaker, who is also known as a security consultant, is said to have been under scrutiny prior to his arrest, with intelligence authorities investigating the nature and implications of the information allegedly shared with foreign entities.
While the DSS has yet to issue an official public statement on the matter, the development has raised concerns within political and security circles, particularly regarding the potential impact of such actions on Nigeria’s diplomatic relations and internal security framework.
As of the time of filing this report, it remains unclear whether formal charges have been filed or when he will be arraigned in court.
