Former Sokoto East lawmaker declares return to PDP ahead of 2027 elections, cites leadership failure within ADC
Former Senator representing Sokoto East, Abubakar Umar Gada, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and declared his return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of sabotaging the party in the state.
Gada said his decision followed what he described as a prolonged leadership crisis within the ADC in Sokoto, alleging that Tambuwal failed to show commitment to building and strengthening the party. He stated that both leaders had agreed to jointly lead the ADC in the state, but claimed the agreement was undermined by a lack of mobilisation, grassroots engagement, and organisational direction.
According to the former lawmaker, Tambuwal rarely interacted with party members or encouraged mass registration, leaving the ADC weak and disorganised. He also alleged that the former governor maintained conflicting political interests while publicly associating with the party, a situation he said made effective party building impossible.
Gada explained that the unresolved internal issues and absence of clear leadership forced him to abandon the ADC, noting that his return to the PDP was aimed at aligning with a more stable political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development has generated mixed reactions in Sokoto’s political circle, with supporters welcoming his defection, while officials of the PDP in the state said they were yet to receive formal confirmation of his registration at the ward or state level.
