Falana made the call on Tuesday during a nationwide protest in Lagos
Human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has urged the Federal Government to reopen and prosecute cases involving over 400 suspected terror financiers arrested since 2021.
Falana made the call on Tuesday during a nationwide protest in Lagos, stressing that the continued failure to charge the suspects in court poses a threat to Nigeria’s fight against insecurity.
According to him, insecurity remains one of the biggest challenges facing the country, and holding terror financiers accountable is essential to restoring peace and public trust.
Falana also referenced an audit report recently submitted to the Senate, alleging that NNPC Limited diverted an estimated ₦210 trillion meant for the Federation Account. He demanded a full investigation and recovery of the funds, insisting that such an amount could significantly boost Nigeria’s economy and reduce social hardship.
He criticised the government for failing to prioritise the security and welfare of citizens despite constitutional obligations, noting that insecurity, poverty, and unemployment continue to rise across the country.
Falana stated that Nigerians deserve transparency, accountability, and justice, especially in the management of public resources and the fight against terrorism.
Why This Matters
- Over 400 suspects accused of terrorism financing remain unprosecuted
- ₦210 trillion allegedly diverted could impact revenue, development, and social programmes
- Falana’s demands renew public pressure on government transparency and anti-corruption efforts
Public Reaction
The call has sparked conversations across political, legal, and civil society circles, with many urging authorities to act on the alleged cases and financial claims.
Falana is expected to continue pushing for the prosecution of the suspects and recovery of the funds. Government response to the demands may determine the next phase of legal and political engagement.
