ICPC Invites Dangote To Present Evidence Against Ex-NMDPRA Boss Farouk Ahmed, Says Resignation Won’t Stop Probe
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has invited billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote to appear before the commission and present evidence against former Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed.
The anti-graft agency confirmed that Farouk Ahmed’s recent resignation will not halt the corruption investigation against him.
Dangote Asked To Adopt Petition, Submit Documents
According to ICPC sources, Dangote is expected to formally adopt his petition and submit supporting documents to aid the commission’s ongoing probe into allegations of corruption and abuse of office against the former NMDPRA boss.
A panel of investigators has reportedly been set up to examine the claims and review Dangote’s evidence once submitted.
Allegations Target Misconduct, Financial Irregularities
In his petition, Dangote accuses Farouk Ahmed of misconduct, including alleged financial misappropriation and wrongdoing linked to the petroleum regulatory sector. The allegations also extend to claims involving unexplained spending and questionable regulatory actions during Ahmed’s tenure.
ICPC: Resignation Not A Shield From Accountability
The ICPC emphasised that Farouk Ahmed’s exit from office does not absolve him of accountability, stating that investigations will continue in the interest of transparency and public trust.
Public Interest, Sector Impact
The probe comes at a critical time for Nigeria’s oil and gas regulatory system, with public attention focused on transparency, domestic refining progress, and accountability in the downstream petroleum sector.
What Happens Next?
Dangote or his legal representative is expected to appear before the ICPC to formalise the petition, after which the commission may invite Ahmed to respond to the allegations as investigations deepen.
