FCT minister says party affiliation won’t matter in the area council elections, insisting support will go strictly to aspirants aligned with Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, , has declared that his political structure will work only for candidates who openly support the re-election of in the February 21 area council polls.

Speaking in Abuja, the minister said party lines would not determine where his support goes, stressing that loyalty to the president’s second-term ambition is the deciding factor. He maintained that aspirants who fail to align with the president should not expect victory, adding that he owes no one an apology for taking such a position.

The statement has immediately reshaped conversations around the coming elections across the six councils, where campaign activities have intensified in recent weeks. Candidates are now weighing how federal backing, grassroots strength and voter sentiment may influence the final outcome.

Observers say the declaration introduces a national political dimension into what is traditionally a local government contest, potentially affecting alliances, endorsements and turnout as residents prepare to vote.
