Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, has launched the “FCT Renewed Hope Youth Empowerment” initiative by gifting 80 new vehicles to young people in Abuja. This donation, made at a ceremony in Area 11, Garki I District, Abuja, is part of the FCT Administration’s youth empowerment efforts.
Wike acknowledged that until President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, previous administrations had overlooked the welfare of women and youth in the FCT. Under Tinubu’s guidance, Women Affairs and Youth Development Secretariats have now been established.
He shared that the President has allocated ₦10 billion for youth empowerment and development. However, Wike clarified that the funds would not be handed out directly but instead invested in initiatives like reviving the FCT Youth Centre in Nyanya. He encouraged young people to embrace this support confidently, regardless of criticism, and focus on building legitimate livelihoods.
The new vehicles, including 30 SUVs, 30 mini Suzuki buses, and 20 Hiace buses, are expected to enhance transportation in areas like Guzape, Asokoro, and Maitama. To assist both residents and visitors, fares will be government-regulated at discounted rates. Starting January, unregistered and unpainted taxis will be prohibited once the new bus/taxi terminals are completed.
Wike urged the youth to support President Tinubu, vowing the administration would prioritize equity, fairness, and justice in its efforts to uplift their lives.
Praising the Minister’s impact, Chairman of the House Committee on FCT, Aliyu Betara, commended Wike’s focus on transformative projects. “After four years, Wike’s legacy will surpass others,” Betara remarked, assuring Wike of the National Assembly’s support.
Abdullahi Ango, Secretary of the Youth Secretariat, also expressed gratitude, describing Wike as an asset to both the FCT and Nigeria.
