FCT Rep Chinedu Calls for Scrapping of Constituency Projects

FCT Representative Obika Chinedu has called for the abolition of constituency projects, arguing that the initiative has derailed lawmakers from their core legislative responsibilities.

Speaking on the matter, Chinedu lamented that constituency projects have made legislators act like executives, leading to public confusion about their true role in governance.

He explained that with over ₦1.8 trillion allocated for FCT infrastructure, lawmakers should focus on lawmaking, representation, and oversight, rather than managing projects meant for the executive arm.

According to him, “The concept of constituency projects has blurred the line between the legislature and the executive. Citizens now expect lawmakers to execute projects instead of making laws to strengthen governance.”

Chinedu’s comments have reignited discussions on the relevance and accountability of constituency projects in Nigeria’s democratic system.
