The Federal Government has announced the establishment of the Nigeria Fashion Federation (NFF) — a national coordinating platform that will collaborate with state governments and industry stakeholders to promote Nigerian fashion in line with the Confederation of African Fashion’s continental framework.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, during an ongoing press briefing in Abuja on the Federal Government’s adoption of the Afroliganza vision.
According to Musawa, the move represents a major step in aligning Nigeria’s creative industry with the African Fashion Renaissance, widely known as Afroliganza — a continental vision pioneered by the Lai Labode Heritage Foundation.
“The Afroliganza vision is about celebrating African creativity and strengthening cultural unity through fashion. By establishing the Nigeria Fashion Federation, we are ensuring that Nigeria takes a leadership role in this continental movement,” Musawa said.
The Afroliganza initiative seeks to unite African nations through fashion, culture, and creative enterprise, promoting collaboration, innovation, and shared identity across the continent.
Through the Nigeria Fashion Federation, the Federal Government plans to coordinate national efforts, support local designers and textile producers, and enhance Nigeria’s participation in continental trade and cultural exchange programs.
Stakeholders have praised the move as a strategic boost for Nigeria’s creative economy, positioning the country as a key hub for fashion diplomacy and cultural export within Africa.
