Umuahia, the capital city of Abia State, came to a complete halt on Monday as residents observed a massive lockdown in solidarity with the #FreeNnamdiKanu campaign.
Shops, schools, and banks were all closed as traders and workers stayed off the streets to join or support the protest demanding the release of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The march, reportedly championed by human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, drew large crowds who took to major roads chanting freedom songs and displaying placards calling for justice and dialogue.

Security operatives were seen at strategic locations to prevent any breakdown of law and order, while local sources confirmed that the demonstration remained largely peaceful.
The call for Kanu’s release has continued to stir national debate, with activists insisting that his prolonged detention violates court orders and fundamental human rights.
