President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially reappointed Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for a fresh five-year tenure, extending his leadership of the agency until 2031.
The announcement was made on Friday through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, reaffirming the President’s confidence in Marwa’s transformative impact in Nigeria’s drug control efforts.
Since first assuming office in 2021, Marwa has been widely praised for revitalizing the NDLEA and leading an aggressive crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse. His administration has recorded:
Thousands of arrests of drug traffickers across the country.
Strengthened border operations and inter-agency collaborations
Nationwide anti-drug awareness campaigns
These achievements have positioned the NDLEA as one of the most active security and law-enforcement agencies in recent years.
Sources within the Presidency noted that Marwa’s strong performance and integrity in leading Nigeria’s anti-drug war were key factors in his reappointment. President Tinubu urged him to maintain the momentum and continue delivering results in the fight against illicit drugs.
Political leaders and stakeholders have described the reappointment as a positive step for national security. They believe continuity under Marwa will strengthen Nigeria’s anti-drug strategies and deepen ongoing reforms within the NDLEA.
