Kaduna Community of 10,000 Residents at Risk as Healthcare Centre Lies in Ruins

Neglected primary healthcare facility leaves thousands without access to basic medical services in Kaduna State.

A Kaduna community of approximately 10,000 residents is facing a serious health crisis as its only primary healthcare centre remains in ruins, according to reports from Sahara Reporters. The abandoned facility, which serves multiple surrounding villages, lacks functional equipment, medical staff, and essential medicines, leaving residents with no access to basic healthcare.

Local community leaders warn that the situation is particularly dangerous for women, children, and the elderly, who now must travel long distances to access even minimal medical care. Residents describe a growing risk of preventable illnesses and maternal and child health complications due to the clinic’s dilapidated state.

Healthcare experts note that Kaduna State has struggled with underfunded primary health centres, citing similar issues in other communities, where clinics suffer from infrastructure decay, electricity shortages, and lack of trained personnel. While the state government has launched initiatives to rehabilitate health facilities and expand health insurance coverage, many rural areas continue to face severe service gaps.

Community members are appealing to the Kaduna State Government and development partners to rebuild, equip, and staff the abandoned healthcare centre to prevent a looming public health disaster.

The plight of this Kaduna community underscores the urgent need for government action on rural healthcare infrastructure to ensure that residents across the state have access to essential medical services.
