The newly approved School of Architectural Technicians, located in Kuje, Abuja, will serve as a significant hub for the training of technicians in architecture, thanks to the approval of the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa.
According to the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON), the facility will offer education and hands-on training aimed at boosting the built environment sector.
The school is set to enrol 200 students in its first year, offering diploma and certificate programs in architectural technology, building information modeling, sustainable architecture, and more.
It will also provide short courses on hard skills like masonry, plumbing, electrical installations, and POP installations. The centre is expected to play a crucial role in addressing the growing demand for skilled architectural technicians in Nigeria.
ARCON’s president, Oladipupo Ajayi, commended the minister for his commitment to improving the built environment and noted that the school aligns with efforts to curb building collapses by enhancing the skills and knowledge of professionals in the sector.
With plans to secure accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the facility will contribute to raising standards in Nigeria’s urbanization and infrastructure development efforts.
