NLC urges federal government to take urgent action as Nigerians face worsening security and economic challenges.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced a nationwide protest for Thursday, December 17, 2025, calling on the federal government to urgently address rising insecurity, economic hardship, and deteriorating public services. The protest will involve all NLC affiliates across Nigeria, including Abuja.

The labour union highlighted increasing insecurity as a major concern, citing recent attacks on schools, including the abduction of students in Kebbi State. NLC leaders condemned the inadequate security measures and demanded immediate government intervention to protect citizens.

In addition to insecurity, the NLC flagged growing economic pressures on Nigerians, pointing out that over 60% of the population currently lives in poverty. The union also raised concerns about the state of public services, including deteriorating education and health sectors, and threatened to join ongoing strikes if their grievances remain unaddressed.

The union assured that the protest would be peaceful but resolute, aiming to compel government action on security, economic hardship, and labour-related issues. NLC’s nationwide mobilization underscores its commitment to defending the rights of workers and vulnerable citizens.
