Operation Hadin Kai Records Major Breakthrough Against Insurgents in North-East Nigeria
Nigerian troops operating under Operation Hadin Kai have recorded a major counter-insurgency success with the recovery of a Boko Haram surveillance drone and a cache of arms and ammunition in Borno State, North-East Nigeria.
According to military sources, the recovery followed a coordinated patrol and clearance operation conducted by troops in the Pridang area of Borno, close to a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in the state. The operation was aimed at dismantling remaining terrorist hideouts and disrupting insurgent movements in the area.
During the operation, Boko Haram fighters reportedly fled upon sighting advancing troops, abandoning a locally assembled surveillance drone believed to have been used for monitoring troop movements and surrounding communities. The discovery underscores the increasing sophistication of terrorist groups in the region and their adoption of unmanned aerial surveillance technology.
In addition to the drone, troops recovered several weapons and ammunition, including assault rifles, magazines, and other military-grade equipment concealed by the insurgents. Security sources said the recovered items were immediately secured to prevent further use by terrorist elements.
The military noted that the successful operation was carried out with the support of local intelligence and vigilance, reaffirming the importance of collaboration between security forces and local communities in combating terrorism.
Military authorities described the development as a significant blow to Boko Haram’s operational capabilities, stressing that efforts are ongoing to track fleeing insurgents and dismantle their remaining logistics networks across the North-East.
Nigeria has continued to battle Boko Haram and its splinter faction, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), for over a decade, with Borno State remaining the epicentre of the insurgency. However, recent operations by the Nigerian Armed Forces have led to increased recoveries of weapons, neutralisation of terrorists, and disruption of planned attacks.
Security agencies have assured residents of Borno and neighbouring states that sustained military operations will continue to ensure improved safety and stability across the region.
