FCTA workers demand Wike’s removal over unpaid arrears and poor conditions.

Hundreds of workers from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), backed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), staged a protest at the National Industrial Court in Abuja, demanding the removal of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over unresolved labour disputes.

The protest, part of a total and indefinite strike, featured workers carrying placards reading “Wike Must Go”, “Pay Promotion Arrears”, and “Enough Is Enough”. The strike stems from claims of unpaid promotion arrears, poor working conditions, and inadequate work tools.

NLC officials said that despite repeated engagements, the FCTA leadership has failed to meet workers’ key demands, prompting the escalation to the Industrial Court. The court scheduled a hearing for January 26, 2026, to assess the legality of the strike and determine the continuation of FCTA operations.

Federal Capital Territory Administration officials maintain that many demands have been addressed through ongoing dialogue, while union leaders insist that no formal agreements have been reached, insisting on full compliance with workers’ welfare rights.

The protest highlights growing tension between organized labour and FCTA political leadership, reflecting wider challenges in public service administration in the nation’s capital.
