The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu to life imprisonment after finding him guilty on seven terrorism-related charges.
Justice James Omotosho ruled that Kanu’s actions—including his broadcasts and “sit-at-home” directives—amounted to terrorism under the Terrorism Prevention Act. The court rejected the prosecution’s push for the death penalty, opting instead for life imprisonment.
The judgment marks a major development in Nigeria’s handling of separatist agitation and security challenges in the South-East. Kanu is expected to appeal the ruling.
