Peter Obi and other Opposition leaders storm Abuja in mass action, accusing INEC of interference as ADC factional crisis escalates ahead of 2027 elections
A coalition of opposition leaders, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, led a mass protest in Abuja under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), targeting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the party’s ongoing leadership crisis
The protest, which drew supporters and party stakeholders from different parts of the country, marks a significant escalation in the internal conflict within the ADC. Demonstrators accused INEC of interfering in the internal affairs of the party, particularly in the recognition of certain factions and leadership structures.
Peter Obi and Other prominent political figures linked to the movement include Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, and Rotimi Amaechi, indicating a broader coalition effort to challenge what they described as threats to internal democracy.

Protesters marched through key areas of the Federal Capital Territory, calling on INEC to remain neutral and respect party autonomy. Some leaders warned that continued interference could undermine democratic principles and weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ADC, which has recently emerged as a potential coalition platform for opposition figures, has been grappling with multiple factions laying claim to its leadership. This has created uncertainty about the party’s structure and future direction.
Political observers say the protest reflects growing tensions within Nigeria’s opposition space and may signal early realignments ahead of the next electoral cycle. The direct confrontation with INEC represents a notable shift, as internal party disputes are now being taken to the public domain.
As of the time of filing this report, INEC has not issued an official response to the protest or the allegations raised by the ADC leaders.
