Federal Government Greenlights Major Rail Infrastructure to Transform Urban Transport in Kano
The Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a ₦1 trillion metropolitan rail project for Kano State, a major initiative aimed at modernizing urban transportation in the region. The approval came just days after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), highlighting a new phase of federal-state collaboration.
Governor Yusuf announced the approval while addressing delegates at the 2025 National Qur’anic Recitation Competition in Borno State, noting that the rail project will revolutionize urban mobility, reduce traffic congestion, and stimulate economic activity in Kano metropolis.
The proposed rail system is designed to offer a modern, efficient, and affordable mass transit solution, linking key areas of state city and improving daily commuting for residents. It is also expected to attract investments, create employment opportunities, and boost local businesses.
The State government will work closely with relevant federal agencies to ensure the transparent and timely implementation of the project, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s urban transport development under the Tinubu administration.
