Sacking Of Service Chiefs: Over 60 Military Generals Set To Leave Service

Following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s sweeping sack of Nigeria’s service chiefs, over 60 senior military generals are set to retire from active service.

The mass exit is a result of military tradition, which requires officers who are senior in rank or course to the newly appointed service chiefs to step down. The new chiefs are from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Course 40, while most outgoing generals belong to Course 39 and below.

This convention prevents senior officers from serving under their juniors and helps maintain discipline and hierarchy within the Armed Forces.

The Presidency says the move aims to reposition the military for greater efficiency and strengthen national security.
