FCT Orders Early Closure of Schools Over Heightened Security Concerns

The Federal Capital Territory has issued an urgent directive ordering all public senior secondary schools across Abuja to close on or before Friday, November 28, 2025, following fresh security concerns within the city. The announcement was released by the FCT Secondary Education Board (SEB), urging principals and heads to implement the closure immediately as a precautionary measure.

According to the notice signed by Mrs. Aishatu Sani Alhassan, Director of School Services, the decision was approved by the Secretary for Education to ensure the safety of learners, staff, and the broader learning community.

The memo emphasizes that all academic activities must wind down accordingly, and students should be dismissed in a safe and orderly manner.

The directive also instructs schools to communicate effectively with parents and guardians to avoid panic and ensure that every student is properly accounted for. Institutions have been asked to make adjustments to ongoing academic schedules and examinations where necessary, ensuring that no child is placed at risk during the closure process.

While the specific nature of the security concerns was not detailed, the early shutdown is part of broader precautionary steps being taken across the FCT. Residents are encouraged to stay alert, follow security advisories, and prioritize the safety of children during this period.

The SEB added that schools will resume operations on the next official academy day unless further directives are issued by the authorities. The situation continues to be monitored closely to determine when normal academic activities can safely continue.

As Abuja grapples with renewed security challenges, the swift action taken by education authorities highlights the ongoing commitment to safeguarding students and maintaining stability across all public institutions. Parents and guardians are advised to remain patient, stay informed, and collaborate with school administrators throughout the period of temporary closure.
