Delta Police Arrest Security Guard Linked to Retired Judge’s Murder
In the retired judge murder, the Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 25-year-old security guard, Godwin Mngumi, identified as the prime suspect in the gruesome murder of retired High Court Judge, Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, at her residence in Asaba. The arrest marks a major breakthrough in the high-profile investigation that has sparked nationwide attention.
Prime Suspect Arrested With Victim’s Phone
According to police authorities, Mngumi, who was deployed to guard the retired judge’s residence, fled the area immediately after the incident. Investigators traced him across state lines before finally arresting him in Delta State.
During his arrest, the deceased judge’s mobile phone was recovered from him, strengthening suspicions of a targeted attack.
Suspect Names Accomplices
While being interrogated, Mngumi reportedly confessed that he did not act alone. He identified another accomplice, Nnaji Obalum, who has also been arrested.
A third suspect remains on the run, with police operatives launching a full-scale manhunt to ensure all persons involved are brought to justice.
How Justice Okogwu Was Found
Justice Okogwu was discovered dead inside her home located behind IBTC Bank in Asaba. Her brother, who visited on the morning of the incident, found her tied, gagged, and lifeless, prompting immediate notification of security forces.
Police investigations indicated signs of forced restraint, confirming the attack as a violent homicide.
Other Security Guards Under Investigation
The night guard previously on duty, identified as Godwin Vanen, was declared missing and is being sought by the authorities. Another guard, Lucky Matthew, was earlier detained for questioning but has not yet been named as a suspect.
The series of arrests has raised serious questions about background checks and the reliability of private security personnel deployed to residential properties.
Delta Police Assure Thorough Investigation
The Delta State Police Command insists that the case is being handled with the highest level of forensic attention. The Homicide Section of the State CID is currently leading the investigation, gathering evidence and compiling findings for prosecution.
Police authorities assured the public that all individuals involved in the killing will face the full weight of the law.
National Concern Over Rising Security Breaches
The murder of a retired judge has heightened public concern over the growing insecurity and the increasing number of crimes involving domestic or hired guards.
Security experts are calling for improved vetting procedures, better training, and stricter monitoring of guards contracted to private residences.
