The Southern Kaduna Progressives Youth Network (SKPYN) has issued a strong demand for the resignation of Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, following his absence during the screening and confirmation of General Christopher Gwabin Musa as Minister of Defence.
In a statement released to Kaduna Political Affairs on Friday and jointly signed by the group’s President, Comrade Baranzan Chenchuk, and Secretary, Comrade Al’amin Aminu Gwantu, SKPYN described Senator Katung’s absence as “a flagrant betrayal” of the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Southern Kaduna.
According to the youth group, they were shocked to discover that Senator Katung was nowhere to be found during the Senate proceedings, even as General Musa — a highly respected son of Southern Kaduna with what they described as “immense strategic importance to national security” — appeared for screening.
The organization noted that the senator’s empty seat was “conspicuous” during the ministerial session, calling it “an unprecedented act of negligence” and part of a “persistent pattern of absentee representation.”
SKPYN further compared Senator Katung’s performance unfavourably with previous senators from the district, including the late Isaiah Balat, Caleb Zagi, Nenadi Usman, and Danjuma La’ah, praising the past lawmakers for their consistent presence and firm advocacy on national issues.
Expressing total loss of confidence in Senator Katung’s capacity to represent Kaduna South effectively, the group issued a stern demand for a public explanation regarding his absence. They insisted that the senator must demonstrate active participation in legislative duties going forward or “resign immediately.”
The youth group also called on voters across Southern Kaduna to note what it described as an “egregious failure” in representation as the region gradually approaches the 2027 general elections.
“Southern Kaduna deserves better,” the group declared, emphasizing the need for leaders who are “present, proactive, and powerful” in championing the interests of their people.
