Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III asks Muslims to look for the Ramadan crescent Tuesday ahead of guidance from the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
Muslims across Nigeria have been asked to begin the search for the Ramadan crescent on Tuesday following a directive from the Sultan of Sokoto,
The monarch, who also serves as President-General of the , called on the faithful to look out for the new moon immediately after sunset. The sighting will determine the official commencement of fasting for the 1447 AH Ramadan season.
According to the guidance, if the crescent is successfully observed on Tuesday evening, the following day will be declared the first of Ramadan. However, if the moon is not seen, Muslims will complete thirty days of Sha’aban, and fasting will begin the day after.
Islamic leaders urged worshippers to report credible sightings through recognized channels in their communities, assuring that the Sultanate Council will communicate the final decision to the nation once reports are verified.
The announcement traditionally sets the tone for religious activities in mosques and homes, as millions prepare for a month devoted to fasting, prayers, charity and reflection.
