President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Lagos for Europe, with the Presidency declining to disclose his exact destination, sparking fresh public interest ahead of his scheduled trip to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
A statement issued on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the President’s departure, describing the trip as part of his end-of-year break and preparations for an upcoming international engagement.
Presidency Withholds European Destination
According to the statement, President Tinubu’s European stopover is temporary and precedes his participation in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2026, a major global forum focused on renewable energy, climate action, and sustainable development.
However, the Presidency did not reveal the specific European country or city, a move that has drawn attention due to past controversies surrounding the President’s foreign trips.
Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Engagement
President Tinubu is expected to join other world leaders, policymakers, and global investors at the ADSW summit in early January 2026, where discussions will center on energy transition, climate financing, and sustainable economic growth.
