FCT Minister reiterates commitment to safety, infrastructure, and global standards as Ireland opens new embassy in Abuja
Wike gave the assurance on Wednesday during the Saint Patrick’s Day reception and official opening of the new Embassy of Ireland at the European Union Complex in Abuja. He emphasized that security and infrastructural development remain top priorities under the administration of .
According to the Minister, the government is working consistently to transform Abuja into a modern capital city that meets global standards.
“We owe you a duty to create the right environment. We want Abuja to look like other capital cities around the world,” Wike said, noting that significant improvements have already been recorded since the current administration assumed office.
The high-profile event was attended by Ireland’s Minister of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, , alongside the Ambassador of Ireland to Nigeria, , and other members of the diplomatic corps.
Wike further stressed the FCT Administration’s readiness to strengthen bilateral relations with foreign missions, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration to deepen Nigeria’s global partnerships.


While congratulating Ireland on its national celebration and the inauguration of its new embassy, the Minister described the development as a symbol of growing diplomatic ties.
He also hinted at a possible official visit to Ireland, referencing his relationship with Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate, , whom he praised for his leadership and credibility.
Addressing land administration issues in the FCT, Wike warned embassies against leaving allocated lands undeveloped, revealing that such negligence has led to cases of encroachment by land grabbers.
He maintained that the FCT Administration will continue to enforce the law, urging diplomatic missions to take possession of their lands and commence development to avoid future disputes.
The Minister reiterated that his administration remains focused on doing what is right, regardless of criticism, as part of broader efforts to sustain order, improve infrastructure, and enhance Abuja’s status as a world-class capital.
