Ukraine’s President Accuses Iran of Supplying Over 57,000 Drones to Russia Amid Ongoing War
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has condemned Iran for becoming what he calls “Putin’s accomplice”, accusing the regime of supplying Russia with drones and related technology used against Ukraine. Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine never threatened Iran, but Tehran’s support has significantly escalated attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
He revealed that over 57,000 Shahed-type drones, largely of Iranian origin, have been deployed by Russia since the war began in 2022, with Iran providing both the drones and the technical blueprints for their production. Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine holds the Iranian government accountable, not the Iranian people, urging the international community to recognize the threat posed by Tehran’s actions.
The development comes amid U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian strategic sites, raising concerns about broader regional escalation. Zelenskyy praised decisive action to curb Tehran’s support for Russia, describing it as essential to protecting Ukrainian security and preventing the war from expanding further.
Experts warn that Iran’s backing of Russia could complicate diplomatic efforts and increase instability across Europe and the Middle East.
