The University of Abuja Alumni Association has called for transparency, fairness, and integrity in the ongoing selection process for the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Rauf Olaiya Sarafadeen-Kunle, on behalf of the National President, the Association urged the Governing Council of the University to ensure that the process is guided by merit and free from political interference or undue influence.
The association stressed that the University requires a Vice-Chancellor who is capable, visionary, and fully grounded in the unique culture and challenges of the institution.
“The University needs a leader who embodies academic excellence, administrative experience, visionary leadership, impeccable character, and a proven track record of service to the University community. Only such a person can take the University of Abuja to its next phase of development,” the statement read.
The body also urged members of the University community including staff, students, and alumni to remain calm and avoid actions that could heat up the system, emphasizing that peace and stability must remain the priority throughout the process.
The Association commended the outgoing administration for its contributions and called on the incoming leadership to consolidate on existing achievements while driving innovation, discipline, and national relevance.
Reaffirming its commitment to defending the integrity of the institution, the Alumni Association pledged continued advocacy for meritocracy, accountability, and academic excellence at the University of Abuja.
