Sen. Seriake Dickson Backs Trump’s Call, Says Nigeria Yet to Account for

Nigerian Senator Seriake Dickson has backed former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comments on Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, describing them as “a wake-up call” for urgent action to rescue missing schoolgirls and restore national stability.

Dickson, who represents Bayelsa West Senatorial District, said the Nigerian Government still cannot fully account for Leah Sharibu and several Chibok schoolgirls years after their abduction by Boko Haram insurgents.

“Till today, Nigeria has not fully accounted for the whereabouts of many of these students — for instance, Leah Sharibu and some Chibok girls remain missing,”
– Senator Seriake Dickson

The lawmaker emphasized that despite Nigeria’s sovereignty, the scale of terrorist activity from Borno to Zamfara and Katsina States demands stronger international partnerships to combat insecurity and human trafficking.

Dickson urged the federal government to strengthen diplomatic ties with the United States and other allies in the fight against terrorism. He also advocated for the appointment of more Nigerian ambassadors to key nations to deepen global engagement on security, humanitarian aid, and intelligence sharing.

“We must engage global partners in ways that protect our sovereignty while ensuring that terrorism and violent extremism no longer hold any part of Nigeria hostage,”
— he added.

The mention of Leah Sharibu and the Chibok girls renews focus on Nigeria’s long-standing crisis of abductions in schools, which has drawn global condemnation. Sharibu, kidnapped from Dapchi in 2018, reportedly remains in captivity for refusing to renounce her Christian faith. Meanwhile, several of the 276 Chibok girls abducted in 2014 are still unaccounted for.
