FCT Minister Nyesom Wike insists high billboard advertising rates are necessary to boost revenue for infrastructure and development, saying “politics is expensive.”
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has defended the high cost of billboard advertising in Abuja, declaring that politics is expensive and that the territory must generate adequate revenue to support its development.
Wike made the remarks while responding to concerns over the cost of billboard advertising in the nation’s capital.
The minister maintained that the FCT Administration requires sufficient revenue to fund infrastructure development and other essential projects across the territory.
His comments come amid concerns from advertisers, political groups and other stakeholders over the rising cost of outdoor advertising in Abuja.
Billboards remain a major platform for political campaigns, commercial promotions and public communication, particularly during election periods.
Wike’s position has, however, brought renewed attention to the balance between revenue generation, the cost of doing business and the need to maintain an affordable advertising environment in the Federal Capital Territory.
