The controversy surrounding a disputed plot of land in Gaduwa District, Abuja, has taken a new turn as the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lere Olayinka, revealed that former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo (rtd), was “scammed” in the purchase of the property.
According to Olayinka, the land in question — Plot 1946 Gaduwa District was originally allocated in 2007 for parks and recreation purposes, not commercial or residential development. He explained that the company that sold the land to Gambo had misled buyers into believing its use could be converted, but the FCTA rejected the conversion request in 2022.
The matter escalated earlier this week when armed naval personnel reportedly blocked FCTA officials from enforcing a stop-work order, prompting Minister Nyesom Wike to personally visit the site and insist that no one is above the law.
The FCTA maintains that all illegal developments in the territory will be halted, regardless of the status of those involved.
