Abuja Property Demolished Despite Court Order

Developer Cries Out After 17-Year Investment Is Bulldozed In Kukwaba District

A major land dispute has erupted in Abuja after officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), reportedly acting under the directives of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, demolished a multi-million-naira property in the Kukwaba District despite an existing court order stopping any action on the land.

The incident occurred at Plot 541B, Cadastral Zone B00, Kukwaba, and involved operatives from the Department of Development Control accompanied by heavily armed policemen.

Court Suit Filed Before Demolition

The owners of the property — Most Realty and Investment Limited — disclosed that they had already filed a suit at the High Court of the FCT on November 4, 2025, restraining the minister and other government agencies from tampering with the land.

The case, marked Suit No: FCT/HC/CV/4425/2025, lists the FCT Minister, the FCTA, Development Control and other agencies as defendants.

The company argues that the plot was legally allocated more than 17 years ago and that all required statutory fees were paid before physical development commenced.

Policemen Accused Of Selling Materials After Demolition

Residents and company officials alleged that after the demolition, police officers returned to the site to supervise the sale of iron rods and other recovered materials to scavengers.

The development sparked outrage, with many questioning why government agents would allegedly commercialise materials from a site marked for legal review.

Plot Re-Designated Amid Suspicion Of New Allocation

The demolished land has reportedly been re-designated as Plot 833B, and a new fence has been erected — raising concerns that the land may have been reassigned or prepared for reassignment to new interests.

Officials of the company said they fear the demolition was done to pave the way for a fresh allocation despite the pending suit.

Owner Alleges Land Grab Attempt

During a media briefing, the Chief Executive Officer of Most Realty and Investment Limited stated that the demolition was wrongful and executed in violation of legal procedure.

He alleged attempts by government actors to seize the land without issuing formal revocation notices as required by law, adding that the property was meant to host new foreign investment partners.

Public Reaction And Legal Questions

The incident has sparked debate on the powers of the FCT Minister and the recurring trend of land revocations, demolitions, and redevelopment across Abuja.

Legal analysts argue that demolishing a property under court protection may amount to contempt, while human rights observers warn that the incident reflects growing concerns over land insecurity in the capital city.

Background: Wike’s Abuja Demolition Drive

Since assuming office, Nyesom Wike has vowed to enforce planning laws and reverse illegal allocations in Abuja. His actions have led to multiple demolition exercises, including the removal of estates, slums, and commercial structures across the FCT.

However, property owners and civil society groups continue to question the legality and fairness of some decisions.

The property owners say they will pursue the matter in court and demand compensation for losses. Meanwhile, the FCTA has yet to issue a public response to the latest allegations.
